SEVEN…and starting 1st Grade!

My baby boy is growing up!  He turned 7 in July and just started 1st grade this week.  He makes my life full of crazy busy fun! He makes me giggle every day over something and he makes me want to pull my hair out on many days.  He is my happy go lucky, full of energy and life little man.  He is so sweet with his little sisters.  His mission in life is to make his baby sister giggle and to make other sister scream and smile, in that order!  I love this little guy, his big amber brown eyes, those adorable dimples and his ‘I can get anything I want when I flash this’ smile!

The Great Outdoors

We went on a fun family outing up the canyon to a place called Cascade Springs.  The canyon this time of year was beautiful and green…surprising since it is normally brown.  We watched the clouds roll in and hoped that it wouldn’t rain too much on us.  The kids loved walking on the boardwalks around the springs, seeing the fish, checking out the flowers and finding great places to explore.  We ate our “picnic” at the top of the mountain overlooking Deer Creek.  I love my beautiful children and the beauty of the world around me that God created for me to enjoy!!

Happy 1st Birthday Sweet Baby Girl!

Isabelle is 1! How did that happen?? Where did the time go? I cannot believe that it was one year ago today that I was racing down from my family reunion at Joe’s Valley to meet this sweet baby girl and her wonderful birthmom, Ieisha! She is such a delight! She is content and calm, sweet and inquisitive, smart and bashful, happy and particular, smiley and just darling!

She loves her daddy, she loves to army crawl to the bathroom or Spencer and Josey’s bedroom to get into stuff.  She says, “Ma-Ma” and “ba-ba” and knows the signs for more, milk, please, drink, all done, and eat.  She has taught us what is not baby proofed around the house.  She loves our dog Duke and can be found most often standing with both hands on the back door watching him and banging on the door when he comes near.  She sighs when you lay her down in her own bed for her naps.

Spencer says that his baby sister is “beautiful and cute!  Whenever there is something on the couch she has to try and get it.  She is very busy!”

When asked what she likes best about her baby sister Josey said, “when she sticks out her tongue.”

It is easy to say that this sweet angel girl has changed our family’s life forever!  We love you darling girl!

Our New HOME!

So it has been a month since I have been on here because life got shaken up and dumped upside down for us!  We are MOVING!  I never thought I would be saying this, but we are!  To Pleasant Grove (Just one town over–8 minutes from our current home) in a month!  This is our new house:

This is the story of how it came to be…

Right after Isabelle was born just over 9 months ago, Chris had this itch to move.  I resisted, because I LOVE my neighborhood and our ward at church. He said he was feeling claustrophobic and that there was no room for our kids to grow in our current 1900 sq. ft. house.  I resisted more and we had several “discussions” aka. arguments over this, so about October when our neighbors put their house on the market we started searching the MLS sites and looking at houses.  It consumed our nights after the kids went to bed.  In January I told him that we had looked enough and that we needed to start walking through houses so we could see what we like and didn’t like.  We started out with 1 or 2 a week for the first while and then it increased to 4-5 a week.  We walked through a lot of beautiful houses, but nothing seemed like the perfect one.  We walked through one in the neighborhood that our new home is in that backed the 5 acre neighborhood park and loved the neighborhood, but not the home.  The realtor that was listing it said that another one a few doors up as going on the market Monday, but they weren’t ready to show it that weekend, so we scheduled an appointment for Monday morning and walked through it and loved it.  It had everything we had listed on our “want list” except a 3rd car garage (that Chris wanted).  We made an offer that afternoon and by Tuesday morning, April 26th, they had accepted our offer.   That night I had a good cry about leaving all the people I love and the memories we’ve made in our home for the past 10 1/2 years and have been crying on and off for the past month until we closed yesterday!  I can’t believe we are moving in a month!  I can’t believe how everything worked out so timely!  I can’t believe we are finishing the “American Fork Chapter” in our book of life and moving to Pleasant Grove!  Crazy how life works out!  I tell people it is a bittersweet thing for me…I DO NOT like change and this is a challenge for me, but I know we will make new friends and keep in contact with the amazing friends we have made over the past decade!  Here’s to a new chapter beginning in The Powell’s Book of Life!

Our Budding Gymnast

Spencer has been doing gymnastics at the local rec center since he was 18 months old.  He was so busy and active and I needed for him to have an outlet for all the energy he bundles up inside of him.  He has the perfect body build for gymnastic…short and powerful!  He has very strong muscles for a 6 year old and is very cut.  In fact he loves to tell people that he has a six pack of abs!   Anyways, he moved up to Level 2 Boys after Christmas and has been working hard to get his back handspring perfected…he is getting closer to doing it without a spotter.  His coach, Jordan, wants to move him up to the Boys Team after the Summer if he can accomplish a few more basic skills.  To showcase the skills the kids have learned they had a Gymnastic Show (kind of like a Dance Recital) where he could show off the skills he’s worked hard on accomplishing this year!  Below are a few pictures of him on the rings, doing his dive roll from the spring board and his back hip circles on the bar.  Some of the boys on his level and his coach in the right hand corner! His best gymnast buddy, Gabe, is to the right on him. He really does love gymnastics and I am proud to see the commitment and all the growth he has accomplished this year!  Thank you Coach Jordan and all the other coaches who have helped him progress!
